Netflix & Mark Millar to Release 'Prodigy' as Second Comicbook

Netflix is slowly but surely making waves in the comicbook game. Since their surprise acquisition of Mark Millar's publishing company Millarworld in 2017, the streaming giant has made it clear that they intend to be a force in the battle for superhero IP domination spilling across mass media.

The inaugural comic published after the deal was The Magic Order, which was released June 13 to rave reviews and this week saw the announcement of a second comicbook, Prodigy, by Millar (the mind behind properties like Kick-Ass, Wanted and Kingsmen). The book will be released on December 5th, and will see him collaborating again with Batman artist Rafael Albuquerque whom he worked with on Huck.

In Prodigy, the world's smartest man, a guy named Edison Crane, isn't content with running the world's most successful business. His brilliant mind needs constant challenge and so he's taken to consulting on the side for governments around the world when a problem arises they just can't handle.

Edison Crane is a man very much in the public eye as he's a Nobel-Prize winning scientist, a genius composer, an Olympic-level athlete and an expert in the occult though he probably keeps that last one on the hush hush. still, it remains to be seen how he manages to juggle the limelight, solving the mysteries of the world and managing a top Fortune 500 company. I guess if Bruce Wayne can do it.

Millar is clearly excited by the prospect of this release: “I wanted to write the smartest thing I’ve ever written and at the same time top any action set pieces I’ve ever managed in the past and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how this has turned out. Edison Crane is by far the best character I’ve created in my career and I’m delighted that my genius friend [Rafael] Albuquerque is drawing the comic book side of all this. He’s really one of the best artists in the world.”

Expect Netflix to give this a big push and until we see more of it, let's enjoy the variant cover for issue No. 1 from artist Ozgur Yildirim.
